DIY Mother’s Day Printable Embroidery Gift

Give mom something handmade this Mother's Day! Embellish this free printable download with easy embroidery for a special gift (click through for tutorial)

Mother’s Day is just around the corner so before you forget and then scramble for a last minute bunch of flowers, here’s a simple DIY gift that mom is sure to love. Start with a cute printable design of colorful daisies and print it directly on cotton fabric (yes, printable fabric sheets is really a thing and they are so cool!). Add some basic embroidery stitches to create a handmade, heartfelt gift for mom. This design looks cute displayed in a wood embroidery hoop but can also be framed or even made into a tiny pillow.

I used my Silhouette Cameo’s print and cut feature to save time and make a perfectly cut piece. Using a Silhouette makes this project so easy that I want to make these for my mom and all my mommy friends this Mother’s Day.

Directions

  1. Download the print and cut file and open it up in Silhouette Studio. Load it into your inkjet printer so it will print on the fabric side. Print using high quality, or photo paper settings. Once printed, place the sheet onto the cutting mat. Make sure the registration marks are visible before printing, this is what tells the machine where to cut around the printed design.
  2. Change the blade settings to printable cotton fabric in Silhouette Studio and adjust the blade depth to 3. Load the mat into your cutting machine and cut. Once printed, remove the paper backing and place the cut out circle inside the embroidery hoop. Tighten the metal clamp so the fabric is taught.
  3. Using a simple under over stitch, embellish the printed design wherever you like. I started by following the lines inside the leaves and then the centers of each daisy. You can add as little or as much embroidery as you like. Finish each thread color with a simple double knot and trim the ends.

See how the embroidery comes together! After making this fun Mother’s Day gift, I have a feeling I’ll be doing a lot more of these print and embroidery pieces. They are just so fun to make and come together so quickly.

I love that you kept some of the design plain and added just portions of embroidery… pinning!
