Here’s a quick project to get you ready for warmer weather! Take a plain straw doormat (I got this one at Ikea for $9.99), some acrylic craft paint, and a thick bristle paint brush and paint a geometric or organic design on it. I free-handed the dots—I love the slightly imperfect look it gives. I applied two coats of paint on each, letting it dry completely between coats. I plan on making a second one this weekend for the other back door. Happy DIYing!

This is such a cute and easy idea! I will definitely be trying this out this summer–it would be so cute on our front patio.
I just found your blog and as a fellow designer, I love it!

Hi!
Just wondering how the paint held up outdoors with the weather and foot traffic. Did it rub off?

alliHI Alli! It’s held up great and we walk on it everyday! I just recommend applying the paint in really thick coats, allowing it to try completely between coats. I applied 3 coats today and it still looks pretty new.
