House Tour: Den

Peek into our 1967 Florida home and take a look at our cozy den.

Colorful and Comfortable Den

Today I’m starting a little series that is way overdue and that series is a tour of our home! We’ve lived in our home in Winter Park for almost four years and I’ve yet to document every room. So to motivate me to do that I will be sharing one room a week until the entire house has been photographed. I’ve waited to do this because there’s always something on my home to-do list and there’s always something I wish we could change in a room. But if I don’t capture it now, then there’s no way to track the progress. So to kick off this mini series (because after all, our house is only 1,500 square feet) I’m sharing my favorite room in the house—our den.

Right after we moved in Kevin and my dad started tearing down the dated wood wall paneling and put up drywall (I shared more about this rooms transformation here). This was our first big project in our home and it quickly made this room one of our favorites. This room was an addition that we think was done in the seventies or eighties. It has windows on every wall and has the best light in the house (this is also where I photograph nearly all my projects).

The mustard velvet chairs were my grandmothers and were always one of my favorite pieces growing up. I was thrilled when my parents brought them to us!

House Tour: Our Eclectic Den

A collection of books, vintage pieces, and twigs from our yard make our coffee table center piece.

Finding a good, affordable lamp is just about as difficult as finding a conch. We opted for this large, polished nickel floor lamp from West Elm. I keep a large basket filled with blankets knitted by my grandmother near the couch for chilly nights.

In one corned of our den is our wine bar. We use this cabinet to store wine bottles and stemware. It’s also a handy spot for storing everything you need to craft a perfect cocktail. If you’re wondering why the gin looks gold, that’s because it’s Rouge Pink Spruce gin that’s been aged in pinot noir barrels.

All our dog-owner friends always ask where Darcy’s feeder is from so I thought I’d share it with you too. It was a great find from Petsmart two years ago. It’s no longer available there but you can find it online here.

Our den has a door that leads to our patio and backyard. The Christmas after we bought the house, Kevin gave me the Crate and Barrel bench (similar). It’s perfect for storing leashes, yoga mats and for sitting on when you’re putting on your shoes.

Ikea Lack Bookcase Organized by Book Color

Yep, we have an Ikea Expedit bookcase, too. Last year we decided to give it a face lift and organize our books by color. The designer in me was very happy with that decision.

The wall color (that changes so much when the lighting changes) is Behr Premium Plus Ulta eggshell in Parachute Silk.

  1. Ohhh I love those mustard chairs! And I love the idea of a basket for throws — I never quite know what to do with them and leaving them on the sofa just invites my toddler to throw them around the room!

  2. Lucky you to have those amazing chairs passed down to you. And thank you for sharing the name of your wall color. I was loving it as I scrolled through the pictures! :)
