Unique Anthropolgie Bridesmaid Dresses

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

On the search for bridesmaid dress and tired of taffeta and  plain strapless empire waist dresses? Stop by Anthropologie. They have a great selection of dresses that would make lovely bridesmaid dresses. Their solid colors work great for fall/winter weddings and have slight details that will make you swoon (think ruffles, buttons, and asymmetrical shoulders). They also have fun patterned dresses that would be perfect in a vintage inspired wedding. So that brings up the question, do you prefer solid or patterned dresses for your bridesmaids?

DIY Printable Just Married Wedding Banner

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Today’s post features a cute printable project: a just married banner! Last weeks wedding post prompted me to create an easy banner than you could make at home. The banner is available in red, kelly green, sky blue, and black. It looks great printed on a light colored paper or patterned scrapbook paper (think tiny dots or florals). You could even print each character on a different colored or patterned paper. So if you’re feeling crafty, here we go!

Supplies:
• Download the Just Married Banner template in red, kelly green, sky blue, or black
• 12 sheets of 8.5″ x 11″ card stock (solid color or patterned)
• Scissors
• Glue stick or PVA glue and paint brush
• Coordinating .5″ – 1″ wide ribbon, approximately 8′ long

Directions:
1. Print out the template on your selected paper. Pages 7-12 contains 12 blank circles. These need to be printed as they will be the backs of each circle.
2. Cut out every circle along the gray line. You will have 24 circles when you are done.
3. Lie the ribbon on a table and arrange all the front pieces (those with type or the heart) in the correct order. Also place them equidistant  from each other.
4. Apply glue to one of the back pieces. Place it behind the circle containing a letter (I like to with a circle in the middle of the banner and work my way to the outside). Make sure the ribbon is sandwiched between both circles. And press the edges together to ensure that the circles are firmly bonded.
5. Repeat step 4 until all circles are glued and it looks like the illustration above. Yay, you’re done!

Handmade Wedding Banners

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

This week’s wedding post features banners! A few months ago, I created the “Sew in Love” banner shown above for a photo shoot with Shannon Smith. Since then, I have fallen in love with the idea of using banners to communicate. There are so many great custom, handmade options out there. Above are few of my favorites.

When I was looking for my dress two years ago I had the hardest time finding unique, vintage looking, lace gowns. Today, lace gowns are popping up everywhere. The lovely wedding dresses above are from Pricilla of Boston. They have a great selection of gowns with my favorite details: sweetheart necklines, scalloped edges, mermaids, a-lines, and of course beautiful lace! They even have tea-length and above the knee dresses for the non-traditional bride. Above are a few of my favorite ones from the 2010 collection.

Wedding Cookie Bar

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

If you are planning on giving your guests a favor to take home here’s an ides: homemade cookies. My awesome mom (who happens to be a great baker) made various cookies and bars for our wedding. We served them in large glass jars which I created labels for. We purchased glassine bags from Nashville Wraps so each guest could fill up the bag with goodies to take with them. I created monogram stickers, using blank circle labels from Paper Source, that were used to seal the bags. The cookies were a hit! It was fun and fairly inexpensive way to make a wedding favor. If you are overwhelmed about making ton of cookie the weekend before you wedding, don’t worry, you can bake them a couple weeks in advance and freeze them. Just take them out the night before so they can thaw are room temperature.

Vintage Wedding – How to Make Cupcake Wraps

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Today I have an an extra special post for you. A couple weeks ago Shannon of SNS photography and I did a vintage, handmade wedding shoot. We had tons of fun styling and creating all the little handmade details. We were also lucky enough to have Jamie of Work Your Closet and her husband as our models!

I sugared fruits and made vanilla cupcakes for the centerpiece. We used vintage glassware and linens to compliment the handmade theme. I created the menu using the lovely Repro Depot’s folk and flora pattern books. They are a great resource for the DIY bride or anyone wanting to make fun paper projects.

I also hand painted chalkboards to use as table numbers and photo props.

I made a banner that read, “Sew in Love” that we used the decorate the space. I absolutely love how this can be personalized for the couple and how you can use it in so many locations. For even more eye candy from this shoot, visit Shannon’s blog.

Today I would like to share how I made the patterned cupcake wraps. The details are below.

You will need:
- Letter size cardstock paper (patterned or solids)
- scissors
- Clear tape or glue dots
Download the printable template

Print out this file on your favorite patterned paper to create lovely cupcake wraps. You can also print out this file on cardstock and cut out the shapes to create a template. Lay the template on colored / patterened paper and trace along the edges then cut the shapes out. Wrap the paper around a cupcake and secure with clear tape or a glue dot. For a custom look, cut the top edge with pinking shears or scalloped scissors.
